Hey you! I’m Becca, and I’m so bloody happy you’ve made it here to find out more about this blog.
The Après Gal is a chic London lifestyle, winter travel and city break blog. There will be a ton of food and probably some shoes and mascara at some point (fits in with the lifestyle part, right?)
I’m totally dedicated to finding the best places to eat and drink in London and how to get the best out of long weekends.
A LIL BIT OF BACKGROUND
Last year, I started this blog when I got home after a winter living and working abroad in Whistler, Canada and a summer backpacking around Eastern Europe. I was hoping it would get me out of the daze I was in and give me something to work towards. But instead of looking forward, I was looking back. How could I continuously post about something that was finite and already over?
Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing eh? Eventually I ran out of steam and ran out of content. I had set my niche completely wrong and I was making things waaayy too hard for myself. Luckily, I finally got a job in London and I started to explore the amazing city that is literally on my doorstep.
WHAT IS THIS ‘APRES’?
Après is the french word for after, and après-ski is a big deal to me. When you ski in Europe, you can go to proper bars (basically clubs) on the mountain, get drunk and party, then
ski get a lift back down.
In North America, and probably when people go on more fancy, classy ski trips, generally you go to lovely spas and restaurants for your après-ski or for relaxing glasses of wine after your long day on the mountain.
SO, WHY THE APRES GAL?
Well, for me, I love a good après session and it’s something I’ve always looked forward to on my ski holidays. I’m lucky enough to have experienced a mixture of après-ski fun (I’m not a total pisshead) so I am referring to both types.
Obviously, this name made more sense for my original blog vision but I now look at it as a general term – so après-work, après-ski, après-workout… A bit of a stretch I know! But I like the name and I’m not willing to give up on it just yet. 😉
As you know, my name is Becca. I’m 24, an English graduate and I am still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do and what my major goals are. Eventually I’m hoping that writing on here on the reg will give me some direction and I hope I can help people while entertaining them too 🙂
I’m an avid skier, a red wine lover and I’m known for being a little bit sassy. I love to read, I love to write and I love to discuss anything and everything.
CONNECT WITH ME
Well, hopefully I haven’t scared you off! If you want to keep up to date, I’d love it if we could be friends. I wont be sassy I promise 😉
